Embracing Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an evidence-based therapy that focuses on helping us to drop the struggle with our challenging inner experience, and instead foster these feelings, thoughts, memories, sensation, and urges mindfully, without judgment. As a combination of acceptance, mindfulness, values, and commitment, ACT aims to enhance our psychological flexibility, guiding us toward a more fulfilling and satisfying life through embracing our willingness to foster the challenging emotions and circumstances, adapting our thoughts and behaviors, acting and aligning with our personal values and life purpose.
The six core therapeutic processes in ACT are:
1. Contacting the present moment: To be present here and now.. mindfulness
2. Defusion: Detachement. Watch your Thinking
3. Acceptance: Open Up
4. Self-as-context: Flexible Perspective Dynamic approach to oneself
5. Values: Know What Matters. Embrace your real values
6. Committed Effective Action: Do what it Takes. We move from thinking to Doing.
